At Companion Animal Medical Centre, we know how much you love your pet — because we love them too! You want to do everything possible to keep them healthy and happy for years to come. That’s why Dr. Steffen has developed a thoughtful, research-based vaccination protocol built on both science and compassion.

CAMC uses a research-based, low-risk vaccination approach for cats and dogs.

🧪 Why Not All Vaccines Are the Same

Most pet owners don’t realize that not all vaccinations are created equal. Dr. Steffen researches FDA-reported vaccine adverse events each year and carefully selects only those with the safest records.

As a result, CAMC uses vaccines from Elanco Animal Health and Zoetis Animal Health — the same brands we use on our own pets. While these may cost more, they reflect our commitment to safety over economics.

📋 A Personalized Vaccination Plan

At CAMC, we believe in a “less is more” approach to vaccines. Rather than giving your pet every possible shot, we:

  • Discuss your pet’s lifestyle and health history with you

  • Avoid unnecessary or repetitive vaccinations

  • Follow the latest protocols from AVMA and AAFP

  • Adjust schedules based on your pet’s specific risk

We ask you to be part of the vaccination conversation — because no one knows your pet better than you do.

🌿 Integrative Support with Homeopathic Remedies

As an integrative veterinarian, Dr. Steffen also prescribes Thuja and Arnica after vaccination visits to help reduce the risk of any adverse reactions. These homeopathic remedies are given orally once you return home.

🐶 Canine Vaccination Schedule

All CAMC canine patients typically receive core immunizations against:

  • Distemper

  • Hepatitis

  • Parvovirus

  • Parainfluenza

  • Leptospirosis

  • Bordetella

  • Rabies

Once your puppy completes their initial vaccine series, Dr. Steffen may recommend certain boosters every 3–4 years, depending on their lifestyle. However, Leptospirosis, Lyme, Flu, and Bordetella are given annually if needed.

Unlike some practices, CAMC never over-vaccinates — and we never use one-size-fits-all schedules.

🐱 Feline Vaccination Schedule

Indoor cats typically receive immunizations for:

  • Distemper

  • Rhinotracheitis

  • Calicivirus

  • Chlamydia

  • Rabies

If your cat goes outdoors, we also recommend the Feline Leukemia vaccine.

After the initial kitten vaccine series, Dr. Steffen adjusts the schedule based on your cat’s exposure risk — usually every 2–4 years, with exceptions based on medical history and environment.

🧪 Curious About Titer Testing?

We offer titer testing for both cats and dogs to determine immunity levels before giving certain boosters. Ask Dr. Steffen if titer testing is right for your pet.
